Let Freedom Ring with Morgan Freeman

Forty years ago, black America lost its leaders... from JFK to Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, those that propelled the civil rights movement forward were gone. In their place, the music had to take the lead. 'Let Freedom Ring' looks at the legacy of Dr King's message in black American music from 1968 to the present day.

The programme is presented by Morgan Freeman and features contributions from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Grandmaster Flash, Chuck D, Gil Scott Heron, The Wu-Tang Clan, Jay-Z and many more. It explores how black music and message has changed through the years, and if the quest for individual wealth has replaced the collective goals of the civil rights era.

The two one hour documentaries are broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on the 1st and 8th of April 2008.
